All you need to know about how Mable Therapy will be supporting your child.

We're here to support your child

Mable Therapy is a schools' therapy service, delivering counselling and speech and language therapy sessions directly to students, using our online platform. Sessions take place via video in the comfort of the school building, so there's no anxious trips to clinics. Each session is 1:1, with one of our experienced therapists. The Mable platform has creative resources, games and activities, all designed to give your child a fun, engaging experience of therapy.

We have a huge team of specialists, meaning your child will be matched with the right therapist for their need. And unlike lots of other therapy services we have no waiting list, so appointments can be booked in as little as 48 hours.

My daughter has made amazing progress since having weekly speech and language therapy with Julie Cota. She really enjoys the sessions, and always looks forward to ‘talking to Julie’ every week.

Couldn’t recommend Mable enough. The three class for sleep training completely changed our house hold dynamics for the better 😀

As an adult you know there is work to be done but crucially from the child’s perspective, they are learning without realising and having a lot of fun along the way. The follow up reports and weekly exercises are detailed and add clear value.

Highly-qualified,
experienced therapists

All of our clinicians are DBS-checked, fully-qualified and have extensive experience in children’s therapy. Our robust recruitment process hires specialists based on qualifications, experience and personality. We don’t use trainees or volunteers, ensuring your child gets the highest standard of support.

The right specialist
for your child

Our therapists are based across the UK meaning we have a varied network of specialists. Geography shouldn't be a barrier to seeing a therapists with the right specialism and with Mable it isn't.

Effective, transparent
communication

As a parent you can often feel ‘out of the loop’ when it comes to how school is supporting your child. With Mable, parents are given their own log-in, they receive notifications whenever their child has a session and they have access to all the same information as the school.

Simple referral,
no waiting list

Local services are over-stretched and underfunded, meaning your child may have been sat on a long waiting list, desperately in need of support. Mable appointments are available within 48 hours and there’s no waiting time between the initial assessment and when they can start therapy.

Creative software,
for exploring ideas

We’ve done extensive research into how to engage children and designed our software to optimise their therapy sessions. Our creative platform has art resources, games and activities, aimed at all age groups. We use gifs, emojis, text chat and lots of other tools to make our platform a fun and exciting space where children can express themselves freely.

Fun, engaging,
low-anxiety sessions

For some children, the idea of having therapy can lead them to feel more anxious. By delivering therapy online, we make it more fun and it eliminates the need for visits to clinics. Our sessions have been carefully designed to motivate, enhance engagement and reduce anxiety, helping your child to start making progress more quickly.

Counselling FAQs

Speech and language FAQs

Why is my child having counselling?

Counselling can help children who are struggling with a range of issues such as anxiety, low self-esteem or friendship difficulties. If your child has been referred to counselling, then their school has identified them as someone who would benefit from having someone to talk to.

Counselling is a safe space where the child can talk through their issues with an impartial, fully trained professional. It helps to build self-esteem and encourages self-expression, self-awareness and the development of good mental health strategies.

Do I have to pay anything?

Your school is funding the session with Mable Therapy, so you don’t need to pay anything. Some parents choose to fund more sessions for their child once the school’s sessions are complete and that’s very simple to do. For more information, click here.

Will I get the chance to speak to my child’s counsellor?

When your child starts counselling you will have the chance to speak to the counsellor and share any information you think would be helpful. If you would like to do this, please ask the school to let us know. If you have a message for the counsellor or would like to speak to them once counselling has begun, please contact us at info@mabletherapy.com

Can I attend the sessions?

As the sessions are confidential, you will not be able to attend. If you have any questions about the sessions, please let us know.

Will I receive any information about what my child is doing in their sessions?

You'll receive an email inviting you to create your own Mable account. Once you’ve created your account, you will receive updates about the sessions, for example when sessions are booked or cancelled. Counselling is a confidential service and we will not disclose what a child is talking about to their parents or school unless there is a safeguarding issue. This is an important part of counselling as it allows the child to feel safe to open up.

Will a member of staff be present?

A member of staff will help your child to get logged in and once the session has connected they will leave them to access the session privately. The school has provided us with a named supervisor who will be available for the duration of the session. If there are any technical issues or if they feel an adult is needed in the room, the counsellor will contact that named person.

What if my child says bad things about me?

All our counsellors are trained to listen without bias or judgement. We understand that family relationships can be difficult and at times young people will feel negatively towards their parents. Many of our counsellors are parents themselves and understand this first hand. Having a safe space to express these feelings could help your child to overcome some of their negative emotions and it’s likely to improve their relationships with their loved ones. Our counsellors will always support your child through family issues with discretion and sensitivity.

What if my child discloses a safeguarding issue?

If a safeguarding issue is raised our counsellor will not keep it confidential. They will adhere to the school’s safeguarding policy and immediately contact the school’s designated safeguarding lead.
