What will you learn?

The rise in mental health issues in schools, has put teachers under increasing pressure to support struggling students, with little support of training. In ‘Counselling Skills for Teachers’, former teacher and children’s counsellor Helen gives practical advice on how to support pupil wellbeing. As well as sharing theoretical principles, Helen looks at listening and communication skills, the dos and don’ts of self-disclosure, how to use counselling skills with groups and individuals and the importance of knowing when to seek support.

Helen has over 15 years experience working with young people, as a primary school teacher and Child and Adolescent counsellor. She has a post-graduate diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy as well as specialist training in counselling young people. Helen has worked in college, primary and secondary school settings. She’s passionate about working with young people of all ages and supporting them with their mental health.
