How we work

Getting mental health support for your child shouldn't be stressful and with Mable, it isn't.

It's simple to get started

Getting counselling for your child might feel like a big step, but it doesn't need to be. Counselling is something which we can all benefit from and is a great way to show your child that you're taking their mental health seriously. With Mable you're not fixed-in, so you can book the first session and let them decide if it's right for them. Most of the children and young people we see are keen to continue, but if your child doesn't want to carry on, then that's okay. They may just need a bit of time to get used to the idea and they'll let you know when they're ready.

1. Choose your therapist

You and your child can browse the therapist profiles and decide who you think they’d like to work with. Once you’ve selected your therapist, we'll ask you a few questions to check that the therapist is suitable for your child.

2. Book an appointment

Once you’ve chosen your counsellor, simply click on the appointment time that suits you and enter your details. You’ll receive an email with a link to log-in to Mable where you’ll join your appointment. There’s no need to download any software, you just need a PC, laptop or tablet.

3. Meet the counsellor

The first session is your chance to meet the counsellor, either on your own, with your child, or your child can access the session independently. It’s a chance for the counsellor to build a rapport with your child and ask some questions so they can make a recommendation to you. After the first session they'll call you to discuss next steps. You can agree on a regular session time and book a block of sessions in.

4. Start therapy

This is where the real journey begins! Your counsellor will use their expertise to guide and support your child, choosing the best therapeutic approach for their needs. Using our innovative platform, they’ll use talk therapy, creative resources, activities and even sometimes games, to help improve your child’s mental health. Check out our approach to counselling here.

5. Check-in call

After the agreed block of sessions, the counsellor will call you to discuss your child’s progress and answer any questions you have. As the sessions are confidential, we'll always discuss this with your child first, so we know they're happy with what we're sharing. You may decide that this is a good place to stop, or you may agree to continue with more sessions.
