Important Changes to Counselling Services at Mable
As of the end of the school term (July 2025), Mable Therapy will be bringing its counselling service to a close. All counselling sessions delivered via Mable for schools will wind down, and no new referrals will be accepted after June.
We know how important continuity of care is — particularly for young people receiving mental health support — and we’re working closely with our counsellors to ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition for every family.
What does this mean for your School or Trust?
We understand this change may affect multiple schools within your trust, and our team is here to help manage existing bookings, support with any remaining counselling credits, review your subscription, and ensure safeguarding processes continue smoothly.
Key Dates to Know
-
June 2025: All existing counselling bookings will go ahead as planned. However, no new referrals can be made.
-
July 2025: Counselling sessions will continue through to the end of term.
-
September 2025 onwards: Unfortunately, we won’t be able to fulfil any counselling sessions from the new academic year, even if these have already been booked.
If you have counselling credits remaining, we’re here to help you use them meaningfully before the end of term. In most cases, unused credits can be transferred for use on our SALT services.
Safeguarding & Continuity of Care
The wellbeing of pupils remains our absolute priority. Our counsellors will:
-
Continue supporting allocated pupils with their booked sessions through to the end of term
-
Where appropriate, liaise with your school’s usual safeguarding contact to share concerns and ensure continuity of care
-
Support families with signposting to appropriate alternative services where needed to discuss next steps.
SUPPORTING YOU BEYOND MABLE
Ongoing Support Through Bywater Therapy
To help ensure continuity of care, many of the Associate Counsellors previously working with Mable are now transitioning to Bywater Therapy — a new service led by Dr Alexandra Barnett, a Chartered Counselling Psychologist registered with the HCPC and BPS.
With over 20 years of experience supporting children and young people, Dr Barnett and her team are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based psychological care.
Many of these therapists have worked extensively in schools and remain dedicated to providing trusted, compassionate support to young people.
If families or schools would like to explore ongoing counselling with Bywater Therapy, please get in touch.

Yes. Many therapists who worked with Mable are continuing to offer therapy independently, either through a new company called Bywater Therapy or through their own private practice.
If parents are happy to cover the cost of the sessions privately, they're welcome to contact their child’s therapist directly or reach out to Bywater Therapy who will assist you with either contacting their current therapist or transferring to a new one.
Safeguarding remains a priority. Counsellors will communicate any relevant safeguarding concerns to your school’s designated safeguarding lead (DSL) as part of a safe and thoughtful conclusion to therapeutic work.
Your Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) provision continues as normal and remains unaffected. We’re here to help you maximise your subscription, use remaining credits, or support your transition.
We recommend:
-
Using remaining counselling credits before the end of term
-
Liaising with your Mable contact about ongoing support options
-
Sharing Bywater Therapy information with parents and carers where appropriate
-
Staying in contact with your safeguarding team to ensure continuity of care
